Anak-anak Kita…

13th May 2011/10th Jamadil Akhir 1432

“How do you expect kids to listen to their parents as, Tarzan lives half naked, Cinderella comes back home at midnight, Pinocchio lies all the time, Aladdin is the king of thieves, Batman drives at 320KM/h, Sleeping beauty is lazy and Snow white lives with 7 guys. We shouldn’t be surprised if kids misbehave at times! They get this from their own storybooks...”

Pernah tak anda encounter statement begini di halaman facebook anda? Saya melihat statement ini semasa it was posted by one of my student di UM. At the first time I read the statement, somehow I felt like... “Oh my, this is so true....”

“Kakak, do you believe in early education?”

“Yes, of course I do.”

“Now, let me explain to you what we’ve got here to offer you...”

Wanita berbangsa India itu pun meneruskan ‘explanation’nya tentang product yang dijualnya. At first, I pretended that I wasn’t really interested. But, her explanation made my heart opened. In the preparation to welcome my first mujahid, I almost forgot about this small, yet, very crucial point.

Not that I haven’t started anything to educate our first soon-to-be-born son. It just... there are more to be done. And that Indian lady just taught me and my hubby how to do it.

About 15 minutes we were there listening to her.

“So, kakak... Are you interested?”

“Yes.”

I doubted. At first, I almost wanted to say... “Ok, I want to have the whole package.” But my hubby said...

“But, we need some times to consider about it. We’ll have a look around this fair first. If we decide to have this package, we’ll come back.”

Walaupun wanita tadi agak keberatan melepaskan kami, at last, she let us go.

Dalam perjalanan kami pusing-pusing di sekitar fair tersebut, we had our discussions.

As a result, we didn’t go back. Instead, we realised something.

In Malaysia, we lacked of Islamic material to educate our children. Ada memang ada. But, so limited.

While they keep momok’ing our children with all the Disney’s fairy tales, our children slowly is kept far away from the tales of our prophets, sahabah and sahabiah. Why? Like the Indian lady said, “Sape tak kenal Mickey Mouse? Sape tak kenal Cinderella?”

So, the point here is, the parents should be educated first.

Let’s fill our hearts with the knowledge of Islam, and practice them. Let’s build the real Baitul Muslim, and move towards the Islamic world order….!!

Wallahu a’lam
